Typespeed

I seldomly play games, and if, I play rather strange ones. The strange games probably include typespeed, written by Jani Ollikainen and Jaakko Manelius. The goal of the game is to type in words as the fly by from left-to-right on the screen. Everytime you enter a word correctly and hit return, it vanishes and your score gets incremented by the length of the word. The game ends if ten words make it to the right border of the screen. Additionally, the program keeps tracks on the wrong keys you hit, measuring your typo ratio.

Basically, the faster you type, the higher is your score. Some subtler tactics concern the order which you choose to type in the words and when / how to correct typing mistakes. To give you an impression of the game, a screenshot of a situation in the middle of a game follows. The nicely diagonally ordered words are a result of the shaping tactic. With that tactic one always enters words from top to bottom and then starts over from the top again; this way eye movement is reduced and the choice of a candidate is very simple. In the situation shown, the word to entered would be reboot.
